interlude 2: i had an idea

I had an idea.

I have a LOT of cabbage. I'm going to start sewing the wool together randomly and make a quilted jacket.

I'm going to make the fabric first, then the pattern pieces, and I'm going to finish the seam allowances as usual, but I'm going to use the thread colors I fancy at the time, instead of matching the fabric.

Sometimes I just want to stitch on something, but I don't want a whole big project in my lap. I thought something like this would fill the bill. Soothing without commitment.

So I’ve spent a very happy evening patching together bits of fabric left over from the Calontir Clothing Challenge and the Ethereal Seamstress Competition that have been living in a brown paper bag under my cutting table. It’s fun doing something more or less random; I can’t wait to see how this turns out.

If I was really masochistic, I’d piece together linen for the lining, but no. I’ll figure that out when I get there. Once I’ve made enough patchwork, I’ll pick a color for the lining that either coordinates nicely or clashes gloriously.

My current plan is to quilt this with cotton or wool batting, and I want to get it done in time for it to get cold again so I can wear it around the house. Or out in public, if I want to look like a hippie witch. I probably will; the grey will have mostly grown out by then.

This evening has been ridiculously relaxing. I kinda want to keep going, but it’s time for bed. This is a long-haul project, anyway, so it’s time to put it down. It’ll be there later.

Night, y’all.
