day ninety-five: realization

I just sewed the front of my coat mockup to the back. The simple act of turning these flat pieces into a 3d shape made the shaping of the armscye leap into my head and now it makes perfect sense. I just need to open up the neckline a wee bit so I can get my head through and I’m off to the races.

(I’m so excited. When it came to me I literally sat there for a moment with my mouth open and then bounced a little in my chair.)

So... I had another epiphany while I was working on the mock-up.

I was totally overthinking the entire thing.

I do not have the time, energy, or dress form to make this coat the way I originally intended. I have till the end of the month to make a coat and a belt; I don't have time to fuck around.

So I'm going to make it based on the tunic I made. I know how to lay it out, I know how to make the most of the fabric I'm going to use to line it...

I'm ready to cut tomorrow.

Hopefully, it will look something like this:

he's not wearing a shirt under there. why is he not wearing a shirt under there?

And I'm planning to make it out of this blue wool, with the body lined with the yellow.

pretty, right?

So that's the plan. I got some tools today to make my bone buckle. It's going to be a lot of work; I need a plan B. Might need to go shopping.

Not now, though; it's time for bed. Night, y'all.
